Migrate SkyGlue Universal Analytics Events to GA4 Events

In Google Analytics 4 (GA4), event tracking requires different configurations than Universal Analytics. For detailed comparisons, please refer to our event tracking in GA4 vs Universal Analytics documentation.

SkyGlue automatically tracks all on page click events in GA4.  If you are an existing SkyGlue client and wish to send SkyGlue events to GA4, please email your GA4 Measurement ID (e.g. G-123ABCD456) to [email protected]. We will configure your SkyGlue account to collect and send events to your GA4 account.

We understand most clients want to run Universal Analytics and GA4 concurrently prior to the sunset of Universal Analytics next year.  SkyGlue can send data to both Universal Analytics and GA4 once we have configured your SkyGlue data collection for GA4.

Default GA4 Event Names

The automatic SkyGlue event name in GA4 is  “on_page_event_sg”.  The default event parameter name is “event_category”.

If you have configured any customized events in the SkyGlue portal, the GA4 event name will be the first value your configured under the “Event Definition” column.

If you use SkyGlue macro(s) in the first value, please review the setup and see if the macro(s) may generate too many event names. If needed, you can add an event name to the existing setup. To add event name, you add “MyEventName–>” to existing event definitions. See details on GA4 event configurations.

By default, SkyGlue automatically converts “event category”, “event action”, “event label” and “event value” custom dimensions in Universal Analytics to GA4 event parameters. The default event parameter names are “event_category”, “event_action”, “event_label” and “event_value”.

To use these event parameters in your GA4 reports, you need to add these event parameter names as custom dimensions or custom metrics in GA4. Please see detailed GA4 document on how to add custom dimensions or custom metrics.

Customization Options

You can customize events beyond the default setup to meet your specific requirements, including:

  • Change default SkyGlue event names
  • Change default event parameter names
  • Change default event parameter mapping between Universal Analytics and GA4
  • Specify event parameter names for individual event

Please see detailed customization options.
